About Boyne Mountain - The Alpine

The Alpine at Boyne Mountain is the original championship course at the resort, a 1970 William Newcomb design that weaves its way down the mountainside toward Deer Lake with genuine alpine-style elevation changes. At 7,045 yards par 72 from the tips (73.5 rating, 136 slope), it's a legitimate championship test and has hosted Michigan's annual Tournament of Champions for decades, the tournament golf on this course is a regional tradition going back nearly as long as the course itself. Newcomb's most creative work shows up on the back nine. The 14th showcases some of his signature spattered fairway bunkering with a highly elevated green surrounded by more traps, a classic 'don't miss long' green complex. The par-4 15th sits on a wishbone-shaped fairway that splits around a stand of trees, forcing a choice off the tee: safely left to wider fairway, or aggressively right across a marsh to a shorter approach. For the Boyne Mountain trip visitor rotating through the resort's 11-course campus, the Alpine is the must-play pairing with the Monument (Newcomb's architectural homage also on this mountain), together they show two different sides of the same designer's imagination.
