Jim Engh designed Fossil Trace in 2003, set adjacent to the Rocky Mountain foothills in Golden, 15 minutes from downtown Denver. The course gets its name from prehistoric fossils embedded in rock outcrops on holes 11 through 15, the dinosaurs walked here roughly 64 million years before Engh routed his fairways through. Golf Digest's Ron Whitten included Fossil Trace at #9 on his '13 Most Fun Golf Courses in the U.S.' list, framing it as a course 'fun primarily because of their architecture.' Westword Magazine has named Fossil Trace 'Best Golf Course in Denver' multiple times, with Denver A-List adding the same designation in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Engh's broader honors are remarkable: four Best New Course awards from Golf Digest from 1997-2003 (including three straight 2001-2003), the publication's first Architect of the Year Award in 2003, and Colorado Golf Hall of Fame induction. Daily-fee public pricing in the $$ band.
Fossil Trace Golf Club's peak-season green fee is around $175 per round. Off-peak rates vary by season. Call the pro shop for current shoulder pricing. Cart, range balls, and caddie fees are typically separate. Estimate the full Denver trip cost
