Hawks Landing Golf Club

Hawks Landing Golf Club in Verona, 15 minutes west of downtown Madison, is one of the late John Harbottle III's most expansive projects, a 2001 design stretching to 7,243 yards par 72 with a stout 75.1 rating and 136 slope. Harbottle, who also designed Gold Mountain Olympic in Washington and whose untimely death in 2012 cut short a fast-rising career, worked the Dane County rolling terrain into a routing that lives up to its 'championship' marketing. The course's calling card is its visual and strategic variety across 18 holes. Sixty-five bunkers, water features on nine holes, and native grass areas throughout combine with Harbottle's signature wide-corridor-narrow-approach shaping. The maroon (championship) tees at 7,243 yards challenge the most seasoned players, while the forward tees keep the course playable for everyone else. For the Madison-area trip visitor, Hawks Landing rounds out a three-course public itinerary alongside University Ridge and Pleasant View, offering the longest and most demanding test of the three.
