Henry Horton State Park Golf Course (Buford Ellington Course)

The only public golf course to reopen in New Orleans after Katrina. A par-62 executive layout on Magazine Street, threading hundred-year-old live oaks across 81 acres in the heart of Audubon Park, twelve par 3s, four par 4s, two par 5s, ~4,200 yards. Denis Griffiths transformed the historic 1898 routing in a $6M redesign that reopened in November 2002. Contoured Bermuda fairways, Tif-Eagle greens, four lagoons. Voted Golf Digest's #1 "Course Over 100 Years Old" and named one of the top public courses in Louisiana. Walks in three hours; the post-round Magazine Street stretch (Camellia Grill, the cafés near Tulane) is part of the appeal.
