Manistee National's Cutters Ridge, now rebranded as The Revenge, is a Jerry Matthews design that opened in 2000 and plays as one of the harder tests in northern Michigan's public catalog. The course's clay-based soil gives marshes, wetlands, and tightly-bunkered corridors prominence throughout the routing, with multiple forced carries over ponds and wetlands on the way to well-defended greens. The back tees rate among the highest course slopes in Michigan, drawing accomplished amateur players from across the state. Matthews is a familiar name in Michigan golf, his portfolio also includes Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Hunter's Ridge in Howell, and TimberStone in Iron Mountain.
