Mount Pleasant, the 9-hole companion course at Bretton Woods, originally laid out by Alexander Findlay in 1895. Findlay is considered by many 'The Father of American Golf,' and this is one of the oldest continuously played courses in the country. Geoffrey Cornish and Brian Silva restored and upgraded the routing in 1989; Mark Mungeam has more recently contributed refinements. The course plays along the banks of the meandering Ammonoosuc River on the valley floor in the shadow of the Omni Mount Washington Hotel. Par 35, 3,245 yards max, with a four-tee-block routing from 2,046 yards (juniors) to 3,215 (tips). The signature is hole 8, a short par-3 of 125-150 yards with plenty of difficulty, miss right and you find the sandy shoals of the river. The complement to the Mount Washington Course, Mount Pleasant is the family-friendly half of the resort offer, an honest walking round with genuine historical cachet. Played over its 130-year history by Gilbert Nicholls, Findlay himself, Harry Vardon, J.H. Taylor, and US Open champion Willie Anderson.
Mount Pleasant Course was designed by Alex Findlay, opening in 1895. The par-35 layout plays 3,245 yards from the back tees. Mount Pleasant Course is part of Bretton Woods in Scramble's catalog of independently researched courses.
