Alister MacKenzie submitted the original Scarlet Course routing plans in 1938, with construction overseen by Perry Maxwell โ a pairing of two Golden Age architects whose template work also defines Augusta National and Cypress Point. Buckeye legend Jack Nicklaus oversaw a major restoration in 2005-06, redesigning bunkers to look more like MacKenzie's other classic courses, lengthening the routing to 7,400+ yards, and changing par to 71. The restored Scarlet has hosted multiple PGA Tour events, NCAA Championships, U.S. Open Qualifiers, U.S. Amateur Qualifiers, AJGA Championships, and the U.S. Junior Championship. Golfweek ranks it among Best Campus Courses, and Golf Digest has it on Best in State (Ohio). As Ohio State's championship course it's accessible to the public on a daily-fee basis. The combination of MacKenzie design pedigree, Nicklaus restoration, and significant tournament history makes it the headliner of any Columbus golf trip. Mid-tier daily-fee pricing.
