BlackHorse Golf Club - South Course

BlackHorse Golf Club's South Course, Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy co-design that unveiled in 2001, routed around an old sand quarry in Cypress, Texas. (DB field crediting Jim Engh is incorrect; the architects of record are Jacobsen/Hardy.) The South is the more celebrated of BlackHorse's two layouts and a top Houston-area public tee time. The defining feature is the final six holes, where fairways run through a former sand quarry, an ingenious integration of leftover industrial terrain into strategic golf. Wetlands and sand dominate the back nine, creating what reviewers have called a 'totally unique setting for golf' within Texas's typical parkland ecosystem. 7,191 yards par 72, 74.9 rating, 135 slope. Widely considered the stronger routing at BlackHorse, the 'quarry holes' are the finish that stays in golfers' memories. A must-play on any Houston golf trip, and convenient access from I-290 for visitors staying in west Houston.
