Seth Raynor's 1929 Charleston Municipal was lost to time and deferred maintenance for most of a century until Troy Miller completed a Raynor-inspired renovation in 2020, a thrifty but artistically ambitious $3.5M rebuild (half from the city, half from the nonprofit 'Friends of the Muni') that reintroduced the classic template holes Raynor and C.B. Macdonald made famous. Miller's redesign incorporates Raynor's canonical templates: Double Plateau, Eden, Punchbowl, Biarritz, Redan, Cape, Road, Short, Maiden, 9 of the originals, all rendered in expanded and restored green complexes. The biggest engineering feat: raising the marsh-side land and deepening the central lake to handle Charleston's tidal surge, which had been flooding the routing for decades. City residents walk for roughly $20; non-residents pay under $100, genuinely extraordinary value for Raynor template golf. Fits a Charleston trip as the 'architectural pilgrimage' round, and the everyday muni that the city's pro golfers use as a home track.
Charleston Municipal Golf Course's peak-season green fee is around $80 per round; off-peak rates drop to about $50. Cart, range balls, and caddie fees are typically separate. Estimate the full Kiawah Island trip cost
