Bert Way designed the original Firestone South in 1929; Robert Trent Jones Sr. completely redesigned it in 1960, lengthening it and adding the dogleg-heavy bunkering that defines its modern reputation. From 1999 through 2018, the South Course hosted the World Golf Championships event under the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational name โ Tiger Woods won eight of those titles, and the course remains synonymous with the WGC era of professional golf. Golf Magazine ranks Firestone South #88 on the United States Top 100 Courses and #79 on the 100 Greatest Courses in the World. Golfweek has it #99 on America's Best Classic Courses. The South Course also earned Invited's Gold Circle of Excellence, and the broader Firestone Country Club is on Golf Digest's 50 Best Golf Retreats in North America. Resort guest access only via the Invited Clubs network. Premium pricing applies for the experience of playing where Tiger and the WGC stars competed.
