About Hayden Lake Country Club

Hayden Lake Country Club is Idaho's oldest golf course, established in 1907 along the shores of Hayden Lake in the North Idaho panhandle, with a 9-hole loop laid out that year using borrowed clubs and sand-greens by locals and guests of the famed Bozanta Tavern resort. The lakeside course was designed in 1907 by Kirtland Cutter, the leading Pacific Northwest architect of the era, and was expanded to a full 18 holes by 1912. J.C. Olmsted of the Olmsted Brothers firm (who designed New York's Central Park) was brought in to plan the grounds. The course and surrounding resort hosted legendary guests in its early decades. President Taft was an overnight guest in 1909; Teddy Roosevelt visited in 1915; and Bing Crosby, who maintained a summer home at Hayden Lake, was a regular. Jackson Kahn Design has consulted on more recent renovations, bringing the course forward while preserving the early-20th-century character. For the Coeur d'Alene / Schweitzer trip visitor, Hayden Lake Country Club is the architectural-history round, Cutter + Olmsted + 1907 on the scorecard, visible in the tree-framed lakeside fairways.
