Tom Fazio and Jerry Pate co-designed the Azaleas, which opened in 1997 as Dancing Rabbit's original course — the resort was built by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians on land rich with Southern woodland character. The Azaleas came first; the Oaks followed two years later. The nickname 'the Augusta you can play' started showing up in reviews almost immediately, and it sticks. The par-72 routing plays 7,128 yards with over two miles of spring-fed creeks and streams weaving through lush Bermuda and Zoysia fairways to Champion Bermuda greens. The signature test is the par-4 3rd (453 yards) — a split fairway where the left is guarded by creek and thick rough, the right sits well above it, and the approach has to carry wetlands and a greenside bunker to a 47-yard-deep green, one of the longest on the course. Ranked #5 in Mississippi by Golf Digest (2023-24). Alongside the Oaks, the Azaleas forms the strongest public 36 in the state and anchors any Mississippi golf trip.
