Southern Pines was the Sandhills' best-kept secret for decades — a Donald Ross original (1906) that locals whispered about while visitors drove past to Pinehurst. Kyle Franz's 2020 restoration brought it back to its rustic roots: sandy wastes, wider fairways, reborn greens, and a "lost hole" recovered from Ross's original plans. Golf Digest named it one of the best renovation projects of 2022 and Golf.com called it their favorite course of 2023. Now owned by the Pine Needles group alongside Mid Pines — three Ross originals under one umbrella.
