The Pete Dye Course at French Lick is Dye's 2009 mountaintop masterpiece in southern Indiana, sketched on a napkin and carved from 300 acres of dense hardwood forest with over 200 feet of elevation change. At 8,102 yards par 72 it's one of the longest championship courses in America; Dye routed it to intimidate visually with railroad ties, blind shots, and the oversized bunkering style that defines his late-career work. Colin Montgomerie called it 'one of the iconic courses' in the United States after winning the 2015 Senior PGA Championship here. The course hosted the Senior PGA Championship (2015) and then a four-year run of the Senior LPGA Championship (2017-2020). On resort days outside tournament windows, the tees flex from 5,000 to 8,000+ yards across multiple sets, making the course playable for resort guests without compromising the back-tee brutality. Greens are firm and often perched; Dye put the trouble visible rather than hidden, which is a small mercy on a course that otherwise gives nothing away.
