The Powder Horn Golf Club in Sheridan, Wyoming is a 27-hole Dick Bailey design spread across the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains, with three distinct nines, Stag, Eagle, and Mountain, that each tell a different story. The original 18 (Stag and Eagle) opened in 1997, with the Mountain nine added in 2002 to complete the 27-hole layout. Powder Horn sits in a residential community but plays as a genuine semi-private golf test, not a real-estate amenity masquerading as a course. The three nines give Sheridan a unique trip-planning flexibility. The Stag weaves through mature trees and wetlands. The Eagle is longer and routed across former meadowland. The Mountain nine is the architectural showcase, open rolling terrain evoking a Scottish links, complete with a small replica of St. Andrews' famous Swilcan Burn Bridge, large greens, and 30 substantial sand bunkers that use scale more than severity to challenge. Pair Eagle/Stag for the traditional 18 or Mountain/Stag for the more dramatic round, Sheridan's anchor golf stop for visitors exploring the Bighorn country between Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore.
Powder Horn Golf Club's peak-season green fee is around $95 per round; off-peak rates drop to about $55. Cart, range balls, and caddie fees are typically separate. Estimate the full Sheridan trip cost
