About Shepherd's Hollow Golf Club

Shepherd's Hollow is a 27-hole Arthur Hills public facility that opened in 2000 in Clarkston, Michigan, less than an hour from downtown Detroit, and consistently the most acclaimed daily-fee course in the metro. Hills routed the course through rolling terrain with mature hardwoods in a way that makes the course feel transplanted from northern Michigan: tall pines, secluded holes, and hilltop vistas more common three hours north. The three nines can rotate for 18-hole play, but the consensus among golfers is that holes 10 through 27 (the second and third nines) form the better 18. Notable moments across the routing: the downhill par-3 2nd (188 yards, with a ridge that hides the front of the green), the short uphill par-4 3rd (345 yards) threaded between bunkers, and the 599-yard par-5 20th that stretches as the longest hole on the property. Shepherd's Hollow is ranked #37 on Golf Digest's 2025-26 America's 100 Greatest Public Courses, its highest spot was #37 in 2007-08, and the second/third nines spent eight years on the 100 Greatest Public list from 2003-2010. It sat inside Michigan's top 15 public courses from 2003-2009. For metro Detroit golf, it's the single round that doesn't require driving to northern Michigan.
