About Shepherd's Rock at Nemacolin

Shepherd's Rock at Nemacolin is Pete Dye's final collaborative design with longtime associate Tim Liddy, opened in 2017 in the Laurel Highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania to complement the resort's existing Mystic Rock Course (also Dye). The routing climbs hills and plunges into valleys for 18 holes of dense hardwood forest, with elevation variance that produces uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies at higher rates than most parkland courses. Dye and Liddy went wider off the tee here than they did at Mystic Rock, landing areas are more generous, which lets the course welcome resort guests. The defenses are in the approaches and around the greens: tough pin positions, Dye's trademark deep bunkering, and green complexes described in reviews as 'absolutely vexing.' The 11th is the postcard hole, one of the prettiest on the property, and waterfalls near the 18th green provide a photogenic finish. Shepherd's Rock ranks #21 in Pennsylvania for 2025-26 per Golf Digest, #5 in Best Courses You Can Play: Pennsylvania per Golfweek (2023), and #9 on GolfPass's Golfer's Choice PA (2023). Pair it with Mystic Rock for Nemacolin's two-course itinerary, Mystic is the championship test, Shepherd's is the resort round.
