Sudden Valley Golf & Country Club

Sudden Valley Golf & Country Club is Bellingham's signature lakeside public round, a Ted Robinson (ASGCA) design that opened in 1971 on the wooded shores of Lake Whatcom. Robinson's routing is a classic example of his water-forward design philosophy: the front nine plays along Lake Whatcom itself with the lake framing several tee shots and approach angles, then the back nine climbs into the surrounding hills for elevation-change holes through mature Pacific Northwest hardwood and cedar stands. At 6,464 yards from the back tees and par 72, Sudden Valley plays shorter than modern championship yardage but the lake pressure, mature-tree corridors, and bent-grass green complexes give it real scoring teeth. The course sits 15 minutes east of downtown Bellingham and roughly an hour north of Everett / 90 minutes from Seattle, which positions it naturally on the I-5 / Vancouver-BC-border golf corridor.
