David McLay Kidd opened Mammoth Dunes at Sand Valley in 2018, his second major American commission after returning to the original Bandon Dunes philosophy that launched his career. McLay Kidd's stated design credo for Mammoth: "maximum fun and minimal frustration." He built playing corridors that are among the widest in golf, with multiple angles into greens and forgiving treatment of errant tee shots. Golf Magazine named Mammoth Dunes Best New Course of 2018. Golf Digest ranked it runner-up for Best New Course (losing narrowly to Streamsong Black). Mammoth appears on America's 100 Greatest Public Courses. Paired with Sand Valley next door, the property gives the resort two Top 100 Public courses a half-mile apart.
