About Corica Park - South Course

The South Course at Corica Park in Alameda is one of American muni golf's most celebrated modern renovations, a complete Rees Jones rebuild (with senior designer Steve Weisser, plus management firm Greenway Golf) that officially reopened to the public on June 22, 2018. Golf Magazine declared it the top municipal course renovation of 2018, recognition that put Corica Park in the national muni-renovation conversation with Bobby Jones Atlanta (Bob Cupp) and Memorial Park Houston (Tom Doak). The original William F. Bell 1957 course had become a worn-out, poorly-draining flat track by 2014, prompting the Jones/Weisser/Greenway partnership to convince the city of Alameda there was a better path than simple restoration. Their response was a total rebuild in Australian sandbelt style, natural fescue, large flat bunkers lining vast fairways, and design emphasis on the ground game that invites creative approach-shot shaping and bump-and-run options. The 6,874-yard South course plays as one of the East Bay's most distinctive public rounds, with Australian sandbelt aesthetic that's genuinely unique in northern California public golf. Corica Park has also become a sustainability standout, native-fescue framing, drought-tolerant turfgrass choices, and low-water-use design aligned with Bay Area environmental standards. For the San Francisco Bay Area trip visitor, Corica Park South is the architectural-must-play in the East Bay, paired naturally with Lincoln Park (SF), Presidio Golf Course, and TPC Harding Park for a four-round Bay Area public-architectural pilgrimage.
