Rees Jones designed the Green Course at Golden Horseshoe in 1991, drawing inspiration from his father Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s iconic Gold Course next door. The Green plays 7,120 yards at par 72 through 105 acres of Virginia woodlands. It's longer but more forgiving than the Gold, a complement rather than a competitor, with broader fairways and more generous landing areas. Golf Digest named the Green one of the five Best New Resort Courses in 1992 at its opening. It earned 4.5 stars in Golf Digest's Best Places to Play (2002-06) and appeared on Golf Magazine's Top 100 You Can Play from 1996 to 2006. The course has hosted three USGA championships, including the 2004 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links.
