Mike Strantz designed Royal New Kent in 1996 as his third solo effort after Caledonia and True Blue, a dramatic, un-Virginia-like design built to evoke Irish links golf on Providence Forge property 30 miles east of Richmond. Huge green complexes, waste-area bunkering, blind shots, and elevation changes that feel transported from Ballybunion. Royal New Kent won Golf Digest's 1997 Best New Upscale Public Course award. Golf Digest has placed it #84 on America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses, #3 Best in State (Virginia), and on the magazine's 100 Greatest overall list. Golf Magazine ranks it #23 on Top 100 You Can Play. Strantz was named one of the Top 10 Greatest Golf Architects of All Time by Golfweek (2000). Pair it with Tobacco Road, Caledonia, and True Blue for a dedicated Strantz weekend, this is his most dramatic inland course.
Royal New Kent Golf Club's peak-season green fee is around $85 per round. Off-peak rates vary by season. Call the pro shop for current shoulder pricing. Cart, range balls, and caddie fees are typically separate. Estimate the full Williamsburg trip cost
