Jack Nicklaus designed the New Course at Grand Cypress in 1988 as his tribute to the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland. Trees kept to a minimum, stone walls making occasional appearances, pot bunkers up to 12 feet deep, and double greens combine to give Orlando visitors a taste of Scottish links without leaving Florida. The course underwent a 2021 update. Grand Cypress has won Gold Medal Awards from GOLF Magazine in 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2004, nine consecutive Gold Medals, one of the longest streaks of the honor in American golf. Golf World named it Top 50 Resort Courses (2010) and Top 25 Resort Golf Shop (2008, 2009). It's consistently rated among Orlando's Top 10 courses.
