About Great River Golf Club

Great River Golf Club in Milford, Connecticut is one of the Northeast's most architecturally-celebrated public-access courses, an 18-hole Tom Fazio II design (not his uncle, the famous Tom Fazio) that opened in 2001 along the banks of the Housatonic River. The 7,060-yard par-72 layout plays to a stout 74.6 rating and 146 slope on bent grass, with a routing that deliberately pairs two different architectural vocabularies: the front nine winds through dense woods, while the back nine opens up into a true links experience running along the river. The recognition has been substantial. In 2005 Great River was named #2 Top Rated Golf Course in the State of Connecticut and ranked #34 on America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses List by Golf Digest, putting it in the national conversation despite being just minutes from the Merritt Parkway. Sacred Heart University now owns the course and operates it as the Great River Golf Club at Sacred Heart University. For the Fairfield County / New Haven trip visitor, this is the marquee public round within 45 minutes of three major metros (NYC, New Haven, Hartford).
