Keney Park's front nine was designed by Devereux Emmet in 1927, Emmet was a pioneering American architect with 150+ courses to his name. The back nine was added in 1931 by Hartford city engineer Robert 'Jack' Ross. The course closed for a complete $6M restoration (Dusenberry Design) aimed at returning the routing to Emmet's 1927 vision, and reopened May 1, 2016. The restoration rebuilt and reshaped green complexes, reshaped fairways, added new teeing grounds, rebuilt bunkers, and installed new irrigation and drainage. Signature features that came back: the punchbowl green on the par-3 6th and a Principal's Nose bunker complex fronting the green on the 17th, a classic Emmet flourish restored from historical records.
