Jack Nicklaus opened the Nicklaus Course at what's now Juniper Preserve (originally Pronghorn) in 2004 โ initially a private-only course. It's routed across central Oregon's high-desert terrain with juniper, sage, and volcanic outcroppings framing the fairways and the Cascades in the long view. Once public play was permitted, the course quickly drew national attention. Golf Digest ranked it #2 on America's Best New Private Courses at its opening (2004) and currently places it #42 on America's 100 Greatest Public Courses (2025-26). It sits #8 in Oregon on Golf Digest's Best in State. Top100GolfCourses ranks it #8 on Top 100 Golf Courses in Oregon and #14 on Top Public Courses in Oregon. A second high-end Bend-area option alongside Tetherow, with a more Nicklaus-typical muscular, target-golf character.
