David McLay Kidd opened Tetherow in 2008 on a high-desert plateau outside Bend, Oregon, his first major American design after Bandon Dunes. Tetherow plays through 360 degrees of Cascades views, with fescue fairways that run firm year-round and green complexes that reward creative approach play over pure power. Golf Magazine named Tetherow Best New Course You Can Play in America in 2008, and Kidd was named Architect of the Year. Golf Digest now ranks it #57 on America's 100 Greatest Public Courses, a 25-spot jump from #82 in 2021-22, the largest gain of any course in the biannual rankings. Golfweek includes it on 2025 Top Resort Golf Courses in the U.S. Tetherow Resort itself was named #1 Resort in the Pacific Northwest in Condé Nast Traveler's 2023 Readers' Choice Awards, its sixth consecutive year on the list.
