Ed Ault and Tom Clark designed Magellan as the eighth and most recent course at Hot Springs Village — the largest gated community in the U.S., a sprawling complex of nine 18-hole courses in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas. Magellan opened in 1996 with a par 72 over 6,384 yards, with tricky greens that were renovated in 2012. Golf Digest ranked Magellan #8 on its Top New Private Courses in 1997, and #5 best golf course in Arkansas in 2000. The course remains among the top three played in Hot Springs Village by visitors.
