Makalei Golf Club sits at 2,000 feet elevation on the slopes of Hualalai above the Kona coast — one of the few Big Island courses with genuine elevation changes and cooling mountain breezes. Dick Nugent's 1992 design plays through native ohia forest with panoramic ocean views. Less resort-polished than the Kohala Coast courses but more interesting terrain and significantly more affordable.
