Tom Doak and Jim Urbina opened Old Macdonald in June 2010, the fourth course at Bandon Dunes Resort, built as an homage to Charles Blair Macdonald, the "Father of American Golf Architecture." The course imports Macdonald's template holes (Alps, Redan, Eden, Punchbowl, Biarritz) and builds them on Bandon's coastal dunes. Massive green complexes, some of the largest at the resort, define play. Golf Digest ranks Old Macdonald 4th in Oregon and 14th on America's 100 Greatest Public Courses (81st on the overall 100 Greatest for 2025-26). It was #5 on Golf Digest's Top 50 Golf Courses for Women (2013). Old Macdonald is a must-play for template-hole enthusiasts and classical-design admirers.
Old Macdonald's peak-season green fee is around $420 per round; off-peak rates drop to about $175. Cart, range balls, and caddie fees are typically separate. Estimate the full Bandon Dunes trip cost
