William Overdorf's 1990 Palmer Golf Course, 40 minutes north of Anchorage in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, a links-style 7,125-yard par-72 routing with the Chugach Mountains and Knik Glacier framing the views. The Matanuska River flows alongside the course and comes into play on seven holes. One of the most scenic public rounds in North America, full stop. The signature hole is #6, a 350-yard par-4 that looks out over the Knik Glacier from behind the green, the kind of vista that golfers take photos of before and after the shot. Parade of small planes overhead (Palmer is a small airport town) and a routing that tracks across tundra-and-tree terrain, varying over 100 feet of elevation. Golf Digest's top course in Alaska from 2003-2005. Top-5 in Alaska rankings continuously through 2017. A must-play on any Anchorage or Mat-Su golf trip, pair with Moose Run Creek for Alaska's two marquee public rounds.
Palmer Golf Course's peak-season green fee is around $46 per round. Off-peak rates vary by season. Call the pro shop for current shoulder pricing. Cart, range balls, and caddie fees are typically separate. Estimate the full Anchorage trip cost
