Jack Neville and Douglas Grant routed Pebble Beach Golf Links in 1919 along the Monterey Peninsula coastline — eight holes skirt the Pacific, with the 7th, 8th, and 18th among the most photographed in all of golf. The course plays firm, demanding shot-shaping in coastal wind, with small greens perched near cliffs and bunkers that frame the most dramatic sightlines in American golf. Pebble Beach has hosted the U.S. Open six times (1972, 1982, 1992, 2000, 2010, 2019) and is scheduled four more (2027, 2032, 2037, 2044). It's the only course ever to crack the USGA's permanent championship rota. Golf Digest has ranked it the #1 Public Course in America continuously since the rankings began in 2003. It also hosted the 2023 U.S. Women's Open. It remains, decades after its opening, the course most American golfers would pick if they could play only one.
