Polson Bay Golf Course has been open to the public since 1938, making it one of the older continuously-operating courses in Montana. The 27-hole facility sits on the southern shore of Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, and remains the only golf course with fairways that sit directly adjacent to Flathead's shoreline. Twenty-seven holes of golf combined with lake-and-mountain views make it a distinctly Montana experience. Golf Digest's 'Places to Play' has awarded Polson Bay a 4-star rating, notable for a city-operated course at this price point. The layout works the gentle natural slopes between the town of Polson and the lake, with water coming into play more through visual presence than strategic difficulty, these are approachable holes aimed at the resort and vacation-rental traffic that fills the area in the summer. For the Whitefish / Flathead Valley trip visitor, Polson Bay is the south-end counterpart to Meadow Lake (Columbia Falls) and Eagle Bend (Bigfork) in the northern Flathead, same lake, different shore, and the best value of the three.
Polson Bay Golf Course's peak-season green fee is around $63 per round. Off-peak rates vary by season. Call the pro shop for current shoulder pricing. Cart, range balls, and caddie fees are typically separate. Estimate the full Whitefish trip cost
