John Steidel's second act at Whitefish, opened in 1994 when he returned to renovate the Mountain nine he'd built in 1983 and added another nine to create the 18-hole South course. The result is the stronger of the facility's two routings and the higher-rated course at Montana's most-played public golf club. The South's identity lives on Lost Coon Lake: #6, #7, and #8 all touch the water, with #7 a par-3 that demands a full carry to a firm green and 6 and 8 par-4s that flirt with the lake down the left. Throughout the round, views of Big Mountain frame the horizon and Flathead Valley peaks sit on the skyline. The better-ranked of the two courses at Whitefish Lake Golf Club and a staple of any Montana-Flathead Valley golf trip. Pair with the North for a 36-hole day at one of the Rockies' highest-traffic public facilities, conditioning holds up despite the play volume.
Whitefish Lake Golf Club - South Course's peak-season green fee is around $112 per round. Off-peak rates vary by season. Call the pro shop for current shoulder pricing. Cart, range balls, and caddie fees are typically separate. Estimate the full Whitefish trip cost
