About Soldier Hollow Golf Course - Gold Course

Soldier Hollow's Gold Course is the only championship-length golf course in America built on a former Olympic venue, the site of the 2002 Winter Olympics cross-country skiing and biathlon events in Midway, Utah. Gene Bates designed the 36-hole facility within Wasatch Mountain State Park, opening in July 2004. The Gold Course sits higher on the mountainside than the Silver sibling, with most of the holes carved out of scrub oak on the steeper slopes. At 7,719 yards from the Gold tees, it's one of the longest courses in Utah, the elevation (5,500 feet) means carry distances are meaningfully greater than sea-level equivalents. The routing is classic mountain or foothills golf: significant elevation change throughout, with dramatic drops within individual holes. Native Utah vegetation, scrub oak, sagebrush, and mountain wildflowers, frames fairways. The flat portion of the property at the bottom of the hill was once the Olympic biathlon range; several holes play across that ground with the original start/finish line markings still visible in places. For a Park City trip, the Gold is the full-day championship round, with the easier Silver Course as the day-two option. Views of the Heber Valley and the surrounding Wasatch peaks are constant.
