The Lake Course at Wasatch Mountain State Park is William H. Neff's 1967 design in Midway, Utah, the older and more playable of the park's two courses (the Mountain Course came in 1998). Neff routed the Lake on gentler valley-floor terrain where the surrounding Wasatch mountains slope away to leave open space; it reads as a classic parkland course grafted onto a high-elevation Utah setting. At 18 holes and Neff's preferred traditional style, the layout is flat and open compared to the Mountain's dramatic elevation changes. Eight lakes and ponds integrate into the routing, providing water hazards without forcing aerial-only approaches. Tree-lined fairways frame most holes, and the front nine stays close to Snake Creek while the back nine ventures slightly into the foothill edges. The Lake is the more welcoming round of the two Wasatch courses, groups with mixed handicaps will find it friendlier than the Mountain Course next door. Pair the two for a two-day Heber Valley state-park itinerary (Mountain in the morning, Lake in the afternoon if you want to work in two rounds a day), with Soldier Hollow's Olympic-venue Gold Course just a few miles away for a full three-day valley trip.
