About Stone Mountain Golf Club - Lakemont

The Lakemont Course at Stone Mountain Golf Club is the second of two 18-hole championship layouts at metro Atlanta's iconic granite-dome state park, a John LaFoy design that opened in 1988 (the more famous Stonemont course is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. 1969 routing on the opposite side of the mountain). Where Stonemont plays as the traditional muscle-course RTJ Sr. test, Lakemont is LaFoy's target-oriented counterpoint: shorter (6,444 yards, par 71), more strategic, and built around dramatic water features that make it Stone Mountain's more photogenic 18. The front nine winds around Stone Mountain Lake with six holes featuring water in play, while the back nine threads through granite outcroppings with four additional water holes. LaFoy's signature mounding and bunker shaping are evident throughout, the architectural voice is quieter than RTJ Sr.'s Stonemont, better suited to target-golf strategists than long-bombers. Views of Stone Mountain's granite face are the scorecard's signature, and the proximity to metro Atlanta (inside the Perimeter) makes Stone Mountain a genuine in-town resort golf option. For the Atlanta trip visitor, the Stonemont/Lakemont 36-hole pair is the quintessential daily-fee package, one RTJ Sr. muscle course, one LaFoy finesse course, same state-park property.
