The Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course is defined by one hole, the par-3 14th, the only movable floating green in the world. Scott Miller completed the course in 1991, and co-founders Duane Hagadone and Jerry Jaeger turned the Lake Coeur d'Alene setting into a single unforgettable engineering feat. The green is a 2,200-ton, 15,000-square-foot concrete-and-styrofoam island, guided across the lake each morning by an underwater cable-and-computer system. It plays anywhere from 90 yards to 220 yards depending on where staff park it for the day. You reach it by boat; a forecaddie tracks your ball. The other 17 holes are a legitimate championship resort layout through towering pines along the lakeshore, they'd be the reason to come to Coeur d'Alene even without the gimmick. Miller routed elevation changes, bent the front nine around the waterline, and used the lake as a visual backdrop on half the holes. The course maintenance reputation is extreme, manicured to a standard unusual for a daily-fee resort. The course is an annual presence on Golf World's Top 25 Resort Golf Shops list and consistently cited among the best resort courses in America by Golf Digest. It's a one-round bucket-list stop, most groups tag it onto a Bandon or Sun Valley trip for the novelty of the world's only movable floating green.
The Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course's peak-season green fee is around $300 per round. Off-peak rates vary by season. Call the pro shop for current shoulder pricing. Cart, range balls, and caddie fees are typically separate. Estimate the full Coeur d'Alene trip cost
