William Newcomb's 2000 Orchards at Egg Harbor, Door County's best public course and the public counterpoint to Horseshoe Bay Golf Club's private tee sheet. Newcomb worked with Pete Dye early in his career, and the Orchards shows that influence in the strategic bunkering and routing work across rolling Door County terrain. DB field lists only '2000' without a designer, the architect of record is Newcomb. The front nine winds through mature hardwoods and blossoming fruit orchards (hence the name); the back nine features dramatic elevation changes and closes with a trio of holes bordering a five-acre lake. The par-5 16th (577 yards) is one of the hardest par-5s in northern Wisconsin, reachable in two for long drivers to a three-tiered green, a layup-and-flip job for everyone else. Hole 13 is the other signature, its green borders Highway 42 (the main Door County road), a memorable visual bit. 4-Star Golf Digest rated and widely considered Door County's best public. A centerpiece of any Door County golf trip, pair with Peninsula State Park for the peninsula's two best public tee times.
The Orchards at Egg Harbor's peak-season green fee is around $54 per round. Off-peak rates vary by season. Call the pro shop for current shoulder pricing. Cart, range balls, and caddie fees are typically separate. Estimate the full Door County trip cost
