The Pointe Golf Club

The Pointe Golf Club in Powells Point is the first course on the Outer Banks mainland as you cross the Wright Memorial Bridge from the Currituck County beaches, an ideal location for vacationers who want a round without giving up a full beach day. Architect Russell Breeden opened the 6,343-yard par-71 course in 1995, routing it along the Currituck Sound with eighteen beautifully-manicured holes conditioned to a level that has earned a 10-time Best of the Beach award. Breeden's layout is deliberately player-friendly, A-1 Bentgrass greens paired with lush Bermuda fairways, a 70.3 rating and 127 slope, and sightlines that keep the Currituck Sound within view on several holes for classic Outer Banks atmospherics. This isn't the bombers' test that Nags Head Golf Links offers down the coast; The Pointe is the round where mid-handicappers can play from the appropriate tees, enjoy a scenic walk, and not feel chewed up.
