The Territory Golf & Country Club

The Territory Golf and Country Club in Duncan, Oklahoma, about 90 minutes southwest of Oklahoma City and 2 hours north of Dallas-Fort Worth, is one of the marquee stops on the Oklahoma Golf Trail. Randy Heckenkemper designed the 18-hole par-72 course, which opened in 2003 on the kind of rolling prairie terrain that defines Stephens County. At 7,110 yards from the Blue tees with a 75.7 rating and 135 slope, it plays as a legitimate championship test, one of the more demanding public courses in southern Oklahoma. The course features TifSport Bermuda fairways, A-1/A-4 bentgrass greens, and natural elevation changes used thoughtfully through the routing. The signature hole is the par-3 13th, 'Buffalo Water', at 172 yards, where water plays a central role in both the strategic decision and the visual composition. Heckenkemper, who also led the renovation at Tulsa's LaFortune Park, has a reputation for building stout but fair routings, and The Territory is considered one of his portfolio highlights. For the Oklahoma Trail visitor, this pairs well with Karsten Creek (Stillwater) and Lincoln Park / LaFortune for a three-round OK golf trip.
