About Wildcat Golf Club - Highlands Course

Wildcat Golf Club - The Highlands is the Scottish-links voice of the 36-hole Wildcat facility in south Houston, a Roy Case design that opened in December 2001, one year before its sister The Lakes Course debuted in 2002. Both courses were built atop a former municipal landfill, with Case specializing specifically in brownfield-to-golf conversions during the late-1990s landfill-reclamation wave; Wildcat takes its name from the old oilfield 'wildcatter' workers who operated the reclaimed site. The Highlands plays to a distinct Scottish-links aesthetic: pot bunkers, native-grass rough, some elevation changes, and more than a few blind shots on approach. At 6,954 yards par 72, it plays slightly harder than The Lakes course and the mix of rolling fairways with stunning views on some holes and links-style windswept openness on others gives it a legitimately different playing character. Panoramic views from the elevated landfill site include the downtown Houston skyline, the upscale Galleria shopping district, and the old Reliant Stadium, a genuinely unique Houston-urban golf view given the city's otherwise flat topography. For the Houston trip visitor, Wildcat Highlands pairs naturally with Wildcat Lakes (also Roy Case) for a full 36-hole Wildcat day, or with Memorial Park Golf Course (Tom Doak restoration) and TPC Deere Run's Houston-area equivalent for a premier Houston-public package.
