Davis Love III completed a total remodel of the Sea Pines Resort's original George Cobb-designed Ocean course in 2017, reopening it as Atlantic Dunes. The Ocean was Hilton Head's first golf course (1961); Love's reimagining preserved the routing's seaside feel while modernizing the greens, bunkering, and drainage to current championship standards. Atlantic Dunes was named 2018 Golf Course of the Year by the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) — a nationally judged honor recognizing the best course in America for design, conditioning, and customer experience. It ranks 39th in South Carolina on Golf Digest's Best in State (2025-26). The Sea Pines Resort itself sits among GOLF Magazine's Top 100 Resorts in the World (2024-25), Golf Digest's 75 Best Golf Resorts (2025), and Condé Nast Traveler's Top 20 Resorts in the South (2025).
