George Fazio (uncle of Tom Fazio) designed the Palmetto Dunes course bearing his name in 1974. It's Hilton Head Island's only par-70 public course, playing 74/145 from the back tees, the tightest and most strategic of the three Palmetto Dunes layouts. Just two par-5s; the front nine has open tree-lined fairways, the back nine tightens up. The George Fazio Course was among the youngest courses ever named to Golf Digest's America's 100 Best at the time. It was named South Carolina Golf Course of the Year by the SC Golf Course Owners Association. For Hilton Head visitors who want a more private-club feel at Palmetto Dunes, this is the pick.
