Bull Run Golf Club

Rick Jacobson's 1998 Bull Run Golf Club in Haymarket, Virginia, at the foothills of the Bull Run Mountain. Jacobson is a Chicago-area architect who worked for Jack Nicklaus Design before starting his own firm; Bull Run is among his most recognized public designs in the Mid-Atlantic. DC-area golfers regularly name it the best public round in the region. The layout aims for 'fun and forgiving', wide fairways, sprawling greens, plenty of visible challenge without gratuitous penal edges. Jacobson's stated goal was to preserve the look of the land while making it play well for everyday golfers AND for more daring hitters. The 18th is the de facto signature, an almost-overflowing lake fronting the clubhouse-framed green, where a placed drive opens up an eagle/birdie chance.
