About Penn National - Founders Course

Edmund Ault's 1968 Founders Course at Penn National, the classic Northeastern-style layout that opened June 1, 1968, with the large contoured greens and tree-lined corridors Ault built his career on. Set in Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, Penn National operates as a dual-course public/inn combo with the newer Iron Forge course as sibling. The 6,966-yard par-72 routing features large greens, sculpted bunkers, and a 7-acre lake. Water comes into play on five holes. The best stretch is the 5-hole finish starting at the par-5 14th, Ault deliberately saved the most demanding holes for the close, which makes the Founders one of the better closing-stretch courses on the Mid-Atlantic public circuit. 73.2 rating / 129 slope. 4-Star Golf Digest rated. Zagat 27 out of 30 (Bethpage Black is 30). #9 Pennsylvania America's Best Public by Golf Magazine. A Mid-Atlantic standard-bearer, pair with Iron Forge for 36 at Penn National or build a weekend around it with Raspberry Falls.
