About Georgia Veterans Memorial Golf Course

Georgia Veterans Memorial Golf Course is Denis Griffiths's 1990 state-park design at Lake Blackshear Resort in Cordele, Georgia, 150 miles south of Atlanta along I-75. Griffiths routed 18 holes across the lakeside terrain with wide Tif 419 fairways, large sloping Dwarf Bermuda greens, and enough mounding, water, and sand to keep every tee shot and approach honest. The course earns a 4-star Golf Digest rating and is widely recognized as one of the best value plays on the Georgia State Parks Trail. Lake Blackshear views show up on most holes, and the bermuda-on-bermuda setup holds up through the hot Georgia summer when most inland courses are baking out. The layout is walkable and scaled for mixed-handicap groups, forward tees stay around 5,100 yards, championship tees stretch past 6,900. For the Georgia State Parks Trail, Georgia Veterans is the south-Georgia marquee round. Pair it with Arrowhead Pointe (Bob Walker 2001) at Richard B. Russell State Park for a two-course Georgia state-park trip that pivots from south Georgia flatlands to the Lake Russell peninsula routing in the northeast.
