Idlewild Golf Course

Idlewild Golf Club in Sturgeon Bay is one of Door County's signature water-forward championship public rounds, a Homer Fieldhouse design that opened in 1976 (some sources list 1978) and plays 6,876 yards to a par of 72 on bent-grass greens and bluegrass fairways. The course sits just minutes from State Highways 42/57 near Sturgeon Bay, giving it genuine proximity to Door County's main tourist corridor and downtown Sturgeon Bay. The calling card is the lake-studded design, highlighted by an island green on the finishing hole, that hole alone turns Idlewild into one of Door County's most-photographed scorecard-closers. Fieldhouse's routing takes advantage of the natural Door County peninsula terrain: lake-dotted lower sections, subtle elevation through the higher corridors, and strategic water features on multiple holes that force genuine approach-shot decision-making. Current owner Brandon Hansen (PGA) has kept conditioning and green speeds at a level that punches above typical Door County daily-fee standards.
