John Harbottle's 2005 Juniper Golf Course is Oregon's best-kept high-desert municipal secret. The City of Redmond acquired larger acreage to relocate the former 9-hole private Juniper Golf Club, then hired Harbottle to build 18 championship holes carved through juniper-and-sage high desert. Golf Digest named it one of America's Best New Courses for 2006 when it opened, and has since ranked it the best municipal course in the state of Oregon. 7,200 yards from the tips with a 74.0 course rating, legitimately punishing length at 3,200 feet of elevation in dry Central Oregon air. The course has hosted the 2013 and 2017 Oregon Open and has been a six-time site for Oregon's U.S. Amateur qualifying events. Native juniper and sage frame most fairways, with dramatic bunker complexes on the mid-round par-4s. Peak green fee $65-90, remarkable value for municipal championship conditioning.
