Tom Doak's 1990 design at Legends Golf Resort, built in tribute to the great Irish and Scottish links, transplanted to the South Carolina Lowcountry. Doak routed Heathland across sandy, flat terrain shaped by mounded bunkering and native fescue rough to mimic Ballybunion and Royal Dornoch rather than a bulldozed American lookalike. Fairways run firm and fast, encouraging ground-game approaches that most Myrtle Beach resort courses punish. The par-4 16th is the signature, a split-fairway hole divided by a creek where the bold left line takes the hazard out of play but leaves a long iron in, and the conservative right is safer but blind. The par-5 13th finishes in an amphitheater green tucked into dunes. The par-3 8th sits behind a pair of simulated dunes with deep front bunkers. Golf Magazine named Heathland a Top 10 New Resort Course in the World when it opened in 1990, and Golfweek places it in South Carolina's Top 20 Courses You Can Play as of 2025. A go-to for groups wanting a real links feel without leaving Myrtle Beach.
